From Monte Carlo we traveled 300 Km to Sainte Cécile Les Vignes in Provence. This will be home base for the next 2 weeks. A great place to call home and visit all the top spots in the region. A dip in the pool to cool down on a 36 degree Celcius day, a trip to the local vineyards to pick up 5 litres of rosé wine, or a short hike up in the mountains to explore the local sights are all options in this beautiful country. Lots to plan and explore. The Tour de France is coming through here the day after tomorrow so we’ll find our spot to camp and cheer on the Canadian cyclers with our Hudson Bay hoodies. This is a great place to call home for the next 2 weeks and enjoy the Cicadas or les cigales, as the French call them, who sing from sun up to sunset. Locals say their song marks the coming of the tourists...and more money. They love these ugly, long-winged bugs, an integral part of Provençal life. A fun fact, Cicadas live for about 2 years, all but the last two weeks of which are spent quietly underground as larvae. But when they go public, their non-stop chirping begins as soon as the temperature hits 26 degrees and continues until sundown. If you’ve never read “A year in Provence” it’s a great book to really get a sense for this place. We will live every minute of it.
