July 19 - Antiparos, Greece 🇬🇷

This afternoon we drove to the port of Pounda to catch the car ferry to Antiparos. It was quite a gong show with a bus load of foot passengers arriving just before the gangway was lifted followed by last-minute cars with drivers desperate to make the sailing and being hurried onboard as the ferry’s engines roared and the boat started to pull away from the dock! I’m still not sure how the last car didn’t drop into the drink! The crossing is a fast 7-8 minutes and cost a mere 8.70 Euro for the car & 2 passengers! On the Antiparos side the port was busy & the tavernas lining the harbour were bustling with clients enjoying a Sunday afternoon drink. We’ve chosen to stay a The Rooster Wellness Hotel & Spa which is a 10-minute drive from the harbour on the other side of the island. It’s a brand new resort that just opened in June 2021, having been delayed by a year due to COVID-19 which killed their planned Grand Opening last summer. The owner is an Athenian who used to summer here on her Grandfather’s land next to the sea. A businesswoman, Athanasia Comninos, longed to make a life in Antiparos, away from the city life in Athens, and so she built this resort on her grandfather’s land. The Rooster is a new luxury boutique resort with just 17 houses & villas, each with a private pool and outdoor shower. The Rooser’s farm-to-table restaurant features freshly caught fish, local indigenous vegetables, locally produced cheeses, and eggs & fruit from the resort’s own farm. A beautiful spot for our last 5 days in the Cyclades.
