July 13 - Switzerland 🇨🇭

Updated: Jul 14, 2019

Well we weren’t able to outrun the rain. We had a water-soaked drive today leaving Austria and into The Engadine, a long high Alpine valley region in the Eastern Swiss Alps located in the canton of Graubunden, the most southeastern canton in Switzerland with a population of 25.000. The Engadine follows the route of the Inn River from its head waters at Maloja Pass running roughly northeast until the Inn flows into Austria, one hundred kilometres downstream. The Inn subsequently flows at Passau Germany into the Danube as the only Swiss river to drain into the Black Sea. The Engadine is protected by high mountains on all sides and is famous for sunny climate (but not today), beautiful landscapes and outdoor activities. It is home to the towns and villages of Ftan, Guarda, Zuoz, St. Moritz, Sils, and Soglio. All of these are on our itinerary for visits. The town of Soglio is close to the border with Italy and was named the most beautiful village of Switzerland in 2015. Spectacular countryside! Tonight we made “camp” at Il Paradis, in Ftan. This is a spectacular former Relais & Chateaux property with views in all directions. From the champagne arrival, to lunch on the deck, to a soak in the Dutch Tub (outdoor tub heated with firewood), to a romantic candlelight dinner in our room, everything about this place is incredible.
