July 12 - Salzburg, Austria 🇦🇹

Updated: Jul 19, 2019

We’re on the road again and today it’s off to Salzburg, Austria, a city on the border of Germany with views of the Eastern Alps. The city is divided by the Salzach River, with medieval and baroque buildings of the pedestrian Altstadt (old city) on its left bank, facing the 19th-century Neustadt (new city) on its right. The Aldstadt birthplace of famed composer Mozart is preserved as a museum displaying his childhood instruments. What a beautiful place, despite the weather being so threatening. We’ve dodged the rain bullets so far but it sure poured cats and dogs on our departure from Kirchheim. We drove south to Munich first on the autobahn where there are very few posted speed signs. We got up to 180 KmPH and cars were still zipping past us. In Canada there are signs on the highways that say “speed kills” and here it’s all about “how fast can you go!”

Absolutely charming in the Altstadt

Like Paris, this city has a “love bridge” where couples profess their love for each other by leaving a pad lock
